Whitsundays
The Whitsundays is situated just 25 miles from the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef. Consisting ofsome 100 islands and islets, of which the vast majority are uninhabited, these cruising grounds are some of the best in Australia, and rival the best in the world. Bareboating is the ideal way to get the most of theWhitsundays, with total freedom for clients to go where they want. Anchorages are seldom more than 10 miles apart, and clients have the choice of seeing no-one, spending their time in secluded bays, or socialising in some of the world’s most exclusive resorts.
The snorkelling and diving are fantastic throughout the Islands, with clear blue water, and masses of tropicalfish, turtles, manta rays, and so on. Butterfly Bay on the north tip of Hook Island is particularly well knownfor its abundance of sea life. The beaches on the Islands cannot be beaten, especially Whitehaven, which is4 miles of snow-white sand. In addition to all of this, there is an annual migration of hump-backed whalesaround July to October.
The Great Barrier Reef, internationally known for its incredible coral and tropical sea life, is about 40 milesfrom the mainland, and north east of the Whitsundays, and trips out can be booked from any of the bases or resorts.
